We were truly amazed by Indonesian ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity and felt blessed when interacting with people, whose fascinating customs and lifestyles were our major attraction.
The country has welcomed us with largely volcanic nature of the islands, cloud-swept mountains, blindingly bright beaches and vivid blue seas, the backdrop for Southeast Asia’s biggest wilderness areas and wildlife sanctuaries.
Moreover, it provided us with an endless resource for adventurous trekking, hiking and temple hopping adventures.
Here is a gallery of photos we have taken when traveling around, from Jakarta towards Bali. We hope we have captured the best of what Indonesia has to offer…

You definitely did the country justice with these beautiful photos. I have a couple of friends who were supposed to go backpacking through Indonesia. They got there, never left the country lol

Those pics of the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan temple, especially from across the water, are my favourites! And I also love the ‘Black Coffee in the morning’. It seems like Indonesia left quite an impression on you!
Yes, it has. I was not very pleased with my trip to the Philippines, but Indonesia totally made my journey!
All the photographs are amazing! They indeed represent Indonesia. I like that Monkey pic the most – where a little one is snugged under her mother. So sweet. :)

Although we really enjoyed Yogyakarta and Bali, we did not really like Jakarta. There is nothing to offer in a touristic matter, just a very big contrast between the poors and the rich ones :(
When we went to Jakarta it was still in the rainy season with those awful floods.. Luckily we managed to switch dates from Garuda Indonesia office in Sanur to come back to Jakarta on our way back to Europe..
We stayed only one day in Jakarta as it was flooded and way too crowdy.
In what period? We where in Jakarta from 22 to 24th of January :)

If you ever return to Indonesia I would recommend Yogya, Labuan Bajo and Raja Ampat.
Although I was born and bred in Jakarta, I would never suggest Jakarta to foreign tourists, unless if they want to go to Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands) in the northern part of Jakarta.

These are all beautiful and agree are postcard worthy. I love how you captured a variety of shots of people, animals and scenery that seem to capture the country’s essence. Love, love the Ubud monkeys especially the ones with the babies. So adorable!

I have yet to visit Indonesia yet but it is one of my top 3 contenders for my next country (along with India and Nepal). Posts like these begin to make the decision easier and easier. Looks like an amazingly beautiful place.
On a semi-related note: Is Indonesia a reasonably priced place to visit (sticking to the big islands) in comparison to Thailand and/or Cambodia?

In my opinion, Cambodia was much cheaper than Indonesia, but Thailand more more expensive. I guess Indonesia was somewhere in the middle. The local food was very cheap, but transport seemed to be pricey sometimes. It all depends on your budget, but we could easily survive there for around $20 per two a day which is good.

I’m torn between the postcard of the monkey and the – wait, no. No, not torn at all. Just when I thought I couldn’t love monkeys more, you take that photo!! It’s also fascinating to see the similarities between fishing bloats there and those in Vietnam – everyone seems to be loving the bright blue paint!! Thanks for this, Indonesia is at the very top of my bucket list, I’m hoping I’ll be able to get there this year.

It’s so nice that you’re in Bali Agness, I went there years ago and we’re going again in the summer so your photos are bringing back memories. I like the Tanah Lot at night picture and the fresh fish in the street.
I would have said that I like the phoographs of the monkeys but I’m scared of monkeys and it’s all because of the horrible experience I had with them near the Monkey Forest where one of them climbed on my back and started pulling my hair!
I love how a woman is casually selling knives on the street- a world away from the tough restrictions on knives in the UK! Pictures look great, i’m visiting Bali in July so hope to read more of your tips soon!
