There are some life changing and amazing challenges out there, in fantastic locations, and completing one of these will leave you with the greatest sense of achievement, new deep friendship forged together through shared experiences and really show you what you are capable of. Not sure where to start? Here are three of the top things to aim for if you think you can take it.

1. The New York City Marathon, New York

This annual marathon will take you through the five boroughs of New York, and is the largest marathons in the world, and is a World Marathon Major. Each year over 50,000 runners take up the challenge.

Running the marathon can be a real challenge.

Run every year since 1970, with the exception of one, on the first Sunday of November it attracts both professionals and amateurs. It is so popular, that places are awarded by lottery, although there are ways to guarantee a place through certain criteria such as specific charity work, by having a low enough completion time or you are one of the people crazy enough to have completed it more than 15 times.

As with any marathon, the work, dedication, and training that goes into, it is immense. But what makes this race stand out from the crowd is the amazing location. Iconic buildings, an atmosphere of support and encouragement. It is definitely worth it.

2. The Inca Trail, Peru

This one is on many people’s bucket list. And for good reason. The route from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu is one of the top treks in the world, stretching 26 miles through sub-tropical jungle.

Trekkers get to see incredible mountain scenery, lush cloud-forest and the amazing Inca ruins themselves. However booking early is very, very important. Due to popularity the local government have restricted the number of people allowed to just 500 a day (and 300 of those are for porters and guides). Especially if you are looking to go between May and September for the dry season.

3. Titan Desert Cycling Challenge, Morocco

The Titan Desert is a mountain bike race that requires huge amounts of stamina for riders to make there way across the Moroccan desert plains. Battling around 600 km over 6 days, this is definitely not for the faint-hearted, it is an absolutely unique experience.

Having the right equipment can mean the difference between failure and success. Hunting down all the right items is made even easier with the online shopping websites, like Buyviu UK. They bring together hundreds of retailers and thousands of products, to save money as compared to the physical shops. These also, more often than not, carry discounted items across all the sites, all year round. You can find everything for every time of outdoor pursuits, so even if you’re not quite ready to head off for the challenge of a lifetime you can at least get your training underway by getting all the kit you need.
