Hey guys, long time no see. Today I’d like to share with you photos from Hanoi and tell you about my and my girlfriend’s plans for upcoming travels.
Amy and I are currently in the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi. We have already been to a few museums, a lot of restaurants and walked countless little streets. Below’s a glimpse of what we’ve seen up to now.
Travel plans for February 2015
Thanks to the long celebration of Lunar New Year in China, I’m off work for the whole February. Although initially we wanted to visit only Hanoi for few days, once here, we found a cheap flight to Ho Chi Minh City (cheaper than the bus ride) and we had to take advantage of this. We then realized that it would be so close to Cambodia, that it would be a shame not to take this opportunity and see what the Kingdom of Cambodia has to offer (and how it has changed since my last visit). Our Vietnamese visas are single entry, which forces us to go back to China through Laos, which I’m sure we’ll enjoy. Therefore, in February, we will travel through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Do you have any recommendations as to what not to miss in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos? Are you going to be there and would like to meet up? Leave a comment below.

Have a great time! Haven’t heard from you in a while. Stay safe!
We had a great time in Hanoi, but certainly enjoy Cambodia more now :D
Hope you also have a great time travelling!
Don’t miss Kuang Si Falls in Laos! You will love it! Safe and happy travels, guys!
Thanks for advice, we’ll surely go and check the waterfalls out.
I have just been to Vietnam with my boyfriend in November and December and we are both still absolutely thrilled. We have been to Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City and absolutely loved every place; only Ho Chi Minh City was a place we were glad to leave after two days there. In Laos I would highly suggest to travel by slow boat on the Mekong from Houay Xai to Luang Prabang and to visit Vang Vieng and Vientiane as well.
I’m happy you liked Vietnam. For us it was Hanoi that we were glad to leave, but after 6 days :D Thanks for commenting.
Cool! Hanoi looks so charming, and such spontaneous travel plans sure do inspire!
Thanks Renuka. I still can’t believe how it all has unfolded :)
Hi Cez! I’m so jazzed for you and Amy! I loved the vintage, nostalgic war sites and displays, my friend! Continue to have a great time and be safe always please :)
Thanks a lot Mike! We also enjoy them, especially the war equipment displays.
Totally enjoyed looking through the photos! Have a nice trip :)
Thanks Antonina :D
Wow! Is there going to be one whole month off due to the New Year in China? Or it’s you to have such a long holiday? We have a 13 day holiday every year in Noruz, Iranian New Year, and I thought it’s a long time for having a holiday.
In China it’s up to a month, especially for schools (where I now work). I was also very happy to hear I’ll be off for the whole February :D
I’ll be in Bangkok next Saturday, then Burma on Tuesday… so close but yet so far! Enjoy this amazing region Cez – Vietnam and Laos are particularly amazing, and Angkor well…. not enough can be said!
That’s a pity we won’t be able to meet, but I’m sure there are amazing adventures ahead of you. The best of luck and stay safe!
One of the South East Asia countries I have not explored. Thanks for sharing!
I recommend you check Vietnam out next time you come to this part of the world. It’s a strange and one of the must-experience places.
Congrats on finding what was once called the “Pearl of the Orient”. I’ve had a love affair with Viet Nam for four decades and will finally be living there permanently in July. In Hanoi, the old quarter and lots of walking make a great few days for the thousand year old city. The weather is much better than HCM.
Ho Chi Minh has an interesting War Museum and a few hot spots: The Rex and Continental Hotels are near each other in District 1. Suoi Tien Park is way down in Distict 11 but a fun day of strolling. The National Art museum isn’t great but the surrounding artisans and galleries are worth exploring for Viet artists.
I’ll be watching to get your take on Cambodia and Thailand. I’ve been living in Thailand since 2008 but ready to get out. Viet Nam here we come.
Sounds like a big change for you. I hope you’ll enjoy your life in Vietnam.
Thanks for all the recommendations!
Good luck and stay safe!
Thats awesome, good to hear from you too.
Hope you have an amazing time, wish I was gonna be in your neck of the woods in Feb, it’d be wonderful to meet chya. Take care, looking forward to posts from Vietnam. Cheers, Anna
Thanks Anna. It would be great to meet up. Well, if not this time, I hope there will be another chance.
All the best!
Vietnam is amazing. You’ll have a great time. Recommendations: take an overnight river cruise on the Mekong River, experience a round boat thing organised by local fisher people(thuyen thung), go to Hoi An for tailoring and yummy French cake, and Da Nang to see the Crazy House! Make sure that you experience the water puppets, and eat lots and lots of Pho!
Thanks a lot for all the recommendations. I’ll try to follow as many as possible (Pho eating can already be ticked off).
Yay for Pho! :)
I’m totally jealous of your epic trip Cez! Kisses for you and Amy! :* Have fun!!
Thanks Agness. All the best for you and you-know-who in Paris (or was it a secret? hahaha). Speak soon
Looks grungy, hectic, noisy… take me there now!! Elegant and intriguing too!
Totally agree. Just the opposite of my beloved Amsterdam!
Yeah, it’s all that. Always a great experience!
I’m glad you’re having a great time! My suggestions for Vietnam would be Hue and Hoi An. Hue has an ancient walled city which is incredibly beautiful. I’m sure you’ve had plenty of coffee! I miss it!
Unfortunately, we missed Hue and Hoi An this time, but I’ve been there with Agness before and they are incredible. Thanks for commenting.
Have a great time and definitely be safe. Love these photos
Thanks a lot K.
Have a great time, Cez!! Bring us loads of pictures!
This is proof that pictures speak a thousand words. Be safe and be sure to keep us updated with plenty more. Vietnam is SUCH a gorgeous place, glad you’re getting to see so much of it and share it with those of us still at home and waiting!
Geat Photos! I like this from the air. Did you do it from the balloon?
Hi Cez
I recognize the 2nd floor of that bar near the Bia Hoi corner, I had a chicken curry and rice there in June 2014. I met with a friend in Hanoi and he went to Ninh Binh after Hanoi, he said the scenery was stunning.
Here is a recommendation from Hanoi, the B-52 Victory Museum, it’s quite hard to find, so I’ve included a map on my blog post. https://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=thetravellingphase&e=com
