Great Buy

At first I thought it didn't work -- took it out on a cloudy day and couldn't see my devices charging -- but then I used it on a sunny day and it actually worked quite well, tried it with 3 devices (1 android phone and 2 power chargers) and they all worked flawlessly. It's important to note that this doesn't hold a charge for later use -- which is why the manufacturer recommends on their website hooking it up to a power charger so you can use the power later on, once you're out of the sun. At this price a true bargain. It also looks quite sleek. I think it's a great buy for storing power when you're going to be outside anyways, probably better to use in the summer than in the winter, but all it probably needs is good sunlight regardless of temperature. On the one hand the lack of power storage could be seen as a minus, on the other it is a real plus since it merely transfers solar energy to a power source, so you don't run the risk of a battery going bad and then being unable to use the backpack for power.

I received this order right on time! It's a great backpack! Buy a rechargeable battery pack, and the backpack charged the battery within several hours in direct sun, or keeps a device powered while in direct sun. So many compartments, and an expandable zipper section makes packing multiple things and devices easy. This is by far the best backpack I've ever owned, hands down.

Out of the Box:

The unit was only wrapped in a plastic back, but since it came from Amazon directly and had all the protective stuff still on it, I wasn't worried.

Pros:

Well made, the seams are well stitched with no fraying to be found

Expandable by about 2 inches, which should come in handy for that extra equipment that might be needed from time to time

Holds all my standard equipment just fine without worry

The Solar panel is a nice and according to my USB multimeter in direct sunlight it produces a whopping 5.25V! Even on a partly cloudy/bright overcast day, it still was able to produce 5V, which is a complete win in my book. I did a test charge of my iphone 6 Plus from 20% to 100% and it did it in under an hour. Very Nice. However. If you are going to use this to charge your devices, do you store them in the same pocket area as the solar panel. In direct sunlight my iphone inside the pack (the first pouch) it got over heated and shutdown during one test. If you have large battery backup device, don't expect this panel to charge it to full in one full day of exposure. I tested my 20,000 mAh Zerolemon (which has eight 18650 cells in it) and starting at roughly 0-10% charge, I was able to get a blinking 25% charge to the battery. Now for this test I left the pack outside all night propped into position to catch the morning sun, and through out the day I went out and positioned it to get direct sun until sunset. When I plugged the zerolemon into the AC charger, it was charging on the 2nd of four charger lights indicating it was working on the 25-50% charge status. I recommend if you have a large battery backup device like this to keep it in the pack for top off charging and allow your devices to charge off off the battery inside the unit.

Seems to be water resistant, but as an added level of protection, I applied Never Wet to it.

Cons:

Wished it was slightly larger, I can see that it will be a challenge to fit certain bulky items in it with all the other stuff. Being in the gaming industry presents hardware challenges that most business people don't have to face. In any normal business trip this size is perfect.

Zippers are quality, though the floppy handles seem to be a low quality and they get stuck in rigid positions, which suck

Orange interior. While this might just be me, I find it unprofessional/distracting and have to answer questions about it prior to meetings. I feel like Seinfeld with that nice Swede jacket with the Candy Cane striped liner.

Bottom Line:

This product works and is a good choice for a student, business man or even a starting prepper.

Great Functionality, Poorly Made

I have purchased this backpack 4 times. I've done that because of the functionality and because it's poorly made. Still, as you can see the functionality outweighs the poor construction. The straps will fail, but then I cut off the one that failed and use it as a cross-body. When that strap breaks, I just use the handle until I can order another one. The compartments work great and the ability to charge when there is no other way, provided, there is sun, has saved me on numerous occasions. It's the right size for a 14" laptop and tablet and for a quick overnight trip, the expandable compartment is sufficient. When I travel, I just keep a battery attached to the solar charging port and have that as an additional back-up. It works, just not for long, I think I get about 6 months out of each one.
