I am by no means a drone expert, but I was an early adopter, also owning a Parrot AR Pro 2.0, so I do have some experience with entry level drones. This Potensic drone is less than half the price of my old Parrot and has many more features.
Pro's:
- With the 3 'speed' modes it is very easy to get up and running without too much worry about crashing. At the lower speed I have let my kids (under age 11) control it and I haven't worried about them losing control.
- The ability to adjust the tilt of the camera from the remote (this is one of the reasons I chose this model) but it has issues (see Cons)
- The GPS return home feature is terrific
- The flight distance and air time is decent
- The travel case has a lot of cubbies for all of the equipment (I keep manuals, charging cable, extra batteries, remote, etc. in mine)
- The phone app is straightforward to use though is not required unless you want to record video
- The plastics seems sturdy (though is very lightweight)
- The control sticks feel good when flying
- The circle function is cool
Cons:
- The camera image quality is just so-so (but I didn't really expect anything great at this price point)
- The motorized movement of the camera tilt is too fast and hard to control, so using this while filming a video is unlikely to give you good results. You'll probably tilt too far and need to adjust. But for me, the most important thing is being able to adjust the camera at all while the drone is in the air. This works fine for still shots.
- The remote is just ok and feels a bit cheap
- The pull-out phone holder won't fit my iPhone XR (see photos)
- The case is supposed to be aluminium but I have my doubts. It's generally solid, but the sides seem more like aluminum covered cardboard as opposed to solid aluminum.
Overall I think this is a very good quality drone and kit for the price. Have flown it multiple times with no issues and the battery life / air time is decent. It handles nicely and the top speed is fun, but not too fast. I would say this is a great drone for beginners, and new drone enthusiasts.
