Asia

Last Updated: 26 February 2018
Asia is a land of contrasts from Russia’s great Orthodox churches with their gilded domes and minarets to the quiet and tranquil temples surrounded by Zen gardens in Japan. From the beautiful sky scrapers dominating the skyline of South Korea’s cities, and the tailored landscape of Singapore to the chaotic hustle and bustle of India’s busiest cities. Golden statues of Buddha tower over towns where people live as they have for centuries, saffron-robed monks live in ancient monasteries, bounded by the snow-capped Himalayas.

The landscape too is different. Steamy tropical forests in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand are teeming with wildlife, along the Mekong River people live and trade as though time has stood still and in Palestine and Israel the desert sands demand respect.

The tropical islands in the South China Sea are surrounded by coral reefs with colorful and abundant underwater habitat, and in Northern Russia the Siberian ice fields challenge even the most intrepid creatures.
