The Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the municipality of Zaanstad in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland.
It is definitely one of the highlights of the Netherlands, just outside Amsterdam.
Here you can experience vibrant and stunning living community that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries.
It’s packed with wooden windmills, barns, houses and museums and built in the typically Dutch wooden architectural style, relocated here piece by piece since 1961.
The Zaanse Schans will easily fill half a day – there is so much to see, taste, smell and experience.
You can take a walk through the stunning buildings and the unique peat meadow landscape, watch traditional crafts such as clog- and cheese-making and visit the windmills and traditional buildings.
Additionally, you can take a boat trip, dine in one of the restaurants or explore the shops and boutiques.
How do you like Zaanse Schans? Would you like to spend here one afternoon?

Gorgeous windmills, and I love your arty shots of clogs. The weather looks super clear. Is it cold?

I thought I recognized those windmills and the river, I’ve been here before many years ago! We went to the Woodenshoe workshop and got a live demonstration on how to make those shoes from a horny Dutch man :D

So funny, not quite like air filled sports shoes. Jogging in them must feel like torture.
